Sister Terry Rickard, O.P., is a Blauvelt, NY Dominican Sister. She was appointed Executive Director of RENEW International in May of 2006 and President in December, 2009. Before coming to RENEW, Sr. Terry worked for many years in parish ministry in the South Bronx and was Vocation and Formation Director for her Dominican congregation. She has extensive experience presenting workshops, retreats, and parish missions. Sister Terry is also a regular contributor to the RENEW International blog. Read more.

Msgr. Thomas A. Kleissler

Msgr. Thomas A. Kleissler

President Emeritus & Co-Founder

Msgr. Thomas A. Kleissler is a Priest of the Archdiocese of Newark and the co-founder of the original RENEW process in the Newark. He was appointed Director of RENEW from its inception and became President in 2001. In December of 2009, he passed the leadership of RENEW to Sr. Theresa Rickard but continues to use his gifts and talents as part of the RENEW team. He co-authored Small Christian Communities: A Vision of Hope for the 21st Century and numerous articles. He holds an MA in Theology from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ and an MA in Counseling from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY. Msgr. Kleissler’s vision for a renewed Church came out of his work as a parish priest in Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Park Ridge, NJ, and as pastor of St. Ann’s Parish in Newark. His memoir, Beyond My Wildest Dreams: From Local Ministry to Worldwide Mission, recounts the history of RENEW and how it touches the lives of millions of people all over the world. The Msgr. Kleissler Legacy Society is a wonderful way for donors to help continue to foster renewal in the Catholic tradition.

Vice President for Pastoral Services and Operations

Ted serves as vice-president for pastoral services and operations at RENEW International, using pastoral and administrative skills gained from previous ministerial positions.

Ted joined RENEW International after 40 years of service to the Church as teacher, school principal, parish director of faith formation, parish director of education, parish director of youth ministry, diocesan director of faith formation, and secretary for evangelization and catechesis.

In addition, Ted serves as a member or chair of several Boards of Trustees and Advisory Boards and continues to partner with many organizations that aid in the Church’s ministry.

Ted graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/education and a Master of Arts degree in private-school administration and religious education. Throughout the years, Ted has participated in ongoing formation both in-class settings and on-line.

Ted enjoys decorating, especially at Christmas, and traveling to Italy.

Peter Fiore

Peter Fiore

Director of Sales and Marketing

Pete directs the sales and marketing efforts of RENEW International. “RENEW allows me to touch people in faith,” Pete says. Pete also currently serves as a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Paterson at Holy Family Parish in Florham Park, New Jersey.

Pete joined RENEW after years of experience in leadership and marketing positions at major pharmaceutical companies. In addition, he has volunteered at St. Francis Breadline, Ronald McDonald House, and as a hospital chaplain.

Pete holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science in toxicology and pharmacology from St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration in both marketing management and management from New York University and the City University of New York. Whenever he needs a laugh, Pete loves visiting his grandchildren. He also shares a passion for scripture and photography. He serves as faith- formation director in the diaconate program in the Diocese of Paterson and he teaches scripture in adult faith-formation programs. He is also a photographer for several schools and organizations.

Marissa oversees all fundraising efforts for appeals, events, grants, and the Capital Campaign. “It’s a blessing to work with the dedicated staff at RENEW,” Marissa says.

Before coming to RENEW, Marissa worked for Random House and was both a freelance editor and copy editor for publishers and businesses. In addition, Marissa was the alumnae director for two Catholic schools in New Jersey, Marylawn of the Oranges and Mount Saint Mary Academy. Marissa also served as the development manager for the Wharton Music Center and CivicStory. She volunteers with the New Providence Friends of the Library to schedule musical programs and help fundraising.

Marissa holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in English from Seton Hall University, Master of Arts in English from Drew University, and Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law. She loves spending time with family and her dog.

Associate Director for Pastoral Logistics and Staffing; Sales Consultant

In his work with parishes, Paul shares a vision of how RENEW transforms parish life. He has led workshops for small-group leaders in the Diocese of Brooklyn using RENEW’s Why Catholic? process and has seen the impact of the organization’s programs.

Paul enjoys working at non-profits for “the focus on mission, not profit.”Paul joined RENEW with over 25 years of experience directing faith formation through youth and family ministry, campus ministry, sacramental preparation, adult faith formation, chaplaincy and vocation ministry. He served as director of discernment for the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in Garrison, New York and has certification in spiritual direction from WomanWell in St. Paul, Minnesota.Paul holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science in psychology from St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota, and Master of Divinity from Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry.

He loves exploring the outdoors and spending time with his wife and with their dog, a greyhound named Jack.

A permanent deacon in the Diocese of Metuchen, Chuck edits and writes content for RENEW’s publications and communications. “Coming to work for RENEW after leaving the newspaper business was an opportunity to merge my editing/writing background and my religious background,” Chuck says.

Before joining RENEW, Chuck was an editor in the newspaper industry and journalism instructor for over forty years. He is also a theater critic and a columnist for The Catholic Spirit, the newspaper and website for the Diocese of Metuchen.

Chuck holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in communications from Seton Hall University and Master of Arts in journalism from Penn State University. He shares a passion for baseball through reading, blogging, social media, chatrooms, and listening to radio broadcasts. Chuck also enjoys telling stories, reading Peanuts collections, and listening to Garrison Keillor’s monologues for a laugh.

John has a passion to see the local parish fulfilling all that it is called and created to be. For 25 years, he has worked in a variety of ministry roles including missionary, small-groups director, counselor, and consultant. His ministry outside of the Church includes extensive work with the homeless and with persons addicted to alcohol and other drugs. Before joining the Parish Catalyst team, John served as a director with Leadership Network, helping churches around the country plan strategically for their future.

In his free time, John enjoys being in the great outdoors. Whether it's snow skiing, jet skiing, hiking, kayaking, golfing, or cycling, he loves being out in nature and discovering new places.

Denise manages all things accounting-, finance-, and payroll-related at RENEW International.

A CPA and a graduate of Rutgers University, Denise has many years of corporate accounting experience at companies including ITT Corporation, Morse Diesel International, and AMEC. After taking time off from her career to focus on family and raise her two daughters, she was grateful and excited to rejoin the workforce at RENEW where she can use her skills to put her faith into action.

Denise serves her parish as a member of both the Pastoral Council and Finance Committee. She is also a member of the Home and School Association Board at her daughter's school, and she is a Girl Scout Leader.Denise and her husband are passionate about nurturing in their daughters the Catholic faith and the value of service. Working at RENEW allows Denise to reinforce these values with her young daughters.

Milissa Else

Milissa Else

Associate Director for Pastoral Programs

A member of RENEW’s pastoral-services team, Milissa provides pastoral consulting to many dioceses and parishes. “Through small-groups, we help parishioners walk as disciples and build a stronger sense of community in their parish,” Milissa says.

Before joining RENEW, Milissa was vice president and director of the Church Division of Ruotolo Associates, a philanthropic counseling firm. Milissa worked with a wide variety of Catholic organizations, parishes, dioceses, and religious communities directing strategic planning efforts, conducting planning studies, and consulting on capital campaigns. Milissa enjoys working at a non-profit to live her faith and have opportunities in mission and service.

Milissa holds the degree of Master of Arts in anthropology and Spanish from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Milissa and her husband Bert have two children. An avid learner, Milissa loves reading in her free time. Milissa also likes watching I Love Lucy and the Carol Burnett Show for a laugh.

Sr. Ruth coordinates initiatives in Spanish for RENEW International and is a member of the Sisters of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Pennsylvania.

Before joining RENEW, Sr. Ruth worked in Hispanic ministry for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and was director of the Office of Multi-Cultural Ministry for the Diocese of Metuchen. In addition, Sr. Ruth has served on many local, diocesan, and national boards supporting the Hispanic community. Sr. Ruth enjoys “working for the mission of evangelization and the building of the Kingdom of God.”

Sr. Ruth holds the degrees of Master of Arts from St. Charles Seminary and Doctor of Ministry from the Catholic University of America. She expresses her passion for evangelization of cultures and Catholic social teaching by following Catholic Relief Services and joining various organizations.

Rev. Jerry Browne serves as the Director of the RENEW Africa National Office in South Africa. He conducts RENEW workshops and leadership training sessions, and promotes RENEW Africa to dioceses throughout South Africa. Fr. Jerry also heads the Pastoral Development Office for the Diocese of Port Elizabeth.

Director of Ignatian Business Chapters

John served as the Executive Director of the Woodstock Business Chapters at the Madden School of Business at Le Moyne College before bringing them to RENEW as Ignatian Business Chapters. He is also the President of Fontana Leadership Development, Inc. John has worked as a management consultant for Morrison Associates, was Executive Director of Partners for Catholic Health Ministry Leadership, and founded and was the Executive Director of The Crossroads Center for Faith and Work at Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago. He has taught at Georgetown’s Executive Master’s in Leadership Program, Notre Dame, Loyola, Mundelein and other universities. He is a graduate of Holy Cross and holds a Master’s Degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern and a Master’s Degree in Religious Education from Loyola University of Chicago.

Soeurette Fougere

Pastoral Consultant

Dr. Fougère is a member of the pastoral-services team and brings to RENEW over three decades of experience in education administration and ministry.

Through her leadership in the New York City public school system, Dr. Fougère has improved instructional programs, empowered teachers and administrators, and written and reviewed grants. She is also a specialist in Multilingual/English Language Learners (MLL/ELLs)’ education. In addition to parish work, Dr. Fougère has attended liturgical and leadership training through dioceses and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Dr. Fougère is also a member of the National Haitian Charismatic Renewal Council.

Dr. Fougère holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science in mathematics, science, and technology, Master of Science in education with a concentration in bilingual education, and Doctor of Philosophy in education. She has also earned professional certificates in school-administration supervision and school-district administration. She is “a devoted and humble servant of the Lord” in non-profit work. A keynote speaker at many religious conferences, Dr. Fougère founded the Haitian prayer group at the Shrine Church of St. Jude, Brooklyn, New York.

Sr. Chela Gonzalez, OP

Pastoral Consultant

Sr. Chela works with RENEW’s pastoral services team and leads workshops in English or Spanish. She is a member of the Dominican Sisters in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Sr. Chela has worked in various diocesan positions, leading in the formation of permanent deacons, catechists, and seminarians. She enjoyed serving food to the homeless through San Antonio Metro Ministry in Texas. Having “always wanted to do ministry,” Sr. Chela is passionate about non-profit work.

Sr. Chela holds a graduate degree in theological studies from the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio. Looking back on her visit to El Paso, Sr. Chela hopes to return and continue to support immigrants.

Theology on Tap Coordinator

Jessie engages with parishes and dioceses that use Theology on Tap programming to connect with young adults. “I really enjoy working for RENEW because, although I am the youngest, the staff feels like family and supports each other,” Jessie says.

A student at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, Jessie is pursuing a Catholic Studies major. She is very active in campus ministry while leading Bible study and retreats and planning spiritual-development opportunities. Jessie is also a small-group leader at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church in Austin. Jessie feels connected to non-profits for the “clear intention to serve and their dedication to their mission.”

Jessie enjoys learning about the environment and cooking. She is passionate about the role of women in the Church, and has conducted research and presented on feminist sacramental theology. Jessie is always eager to take walks, go on bike rides, and make homemade brunch with friends.

As a member of RENEW's Pastoral Services team, Manuel serves the Hispanic Catholic community in the United States and in Latin America. He has been involved in parish ministry for many years in his homeland, the Dominican Republic, and in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Paterson.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, New York (1979) and has Certification in Pastoral Ministry from St. Elizabeth College, Morristown, NJ (1997). He received a Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from Fordham University, New York (2002).

Manuel is happily married to Lucila Hernandez and they have two children.

Sr. Honora, a Sister of Mercy of the Americas, is a member of the pastoral-services team. She enjoys working at RENEW because of her love of parish ministry and in the power of small groups.

Before joining RENEW, Sr. Honora was a pastoral associate at St. Francis Xavier Church in New York City. In addition to certification in spiritual direction and leading retreats, she volunteers with various organizations such as The Innocence Project and alternative- education institutions.

Sr. Honora holds the degree of Master of Arts in theological studies from the University of Dayton. She has a passion for social justice, especially in the areas of racism and immigration. Sr. Honora “can often find humor in unusual circumstances” and feels comfortable meeting people with different backgrounds.

Sr. Elizabeth O'Donnell, OP is a Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose, California. She holds numerous degrees including an Ed.D and M.A. in Private School Administration. In 2016 she earned a Certificate in Spiritual Direction and serves as a spiritual director in local parishes. Sr. Elizabeth served as Director of Adult Faith Formation and Pastoral Associate at the St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center in Tucson, AZ and has extensive experience as a Director of Campus Ministry and classroom instructor.

Sr. Janet, an Adrian Dominican Sister in Adrian, Michigan, is a member of the pastoral-services team at RENEW International. She has directed workshops to help small-group members and leaders “discover and go deeper in their journey of faith and spirituality.”

Sr. Janet brings to RENEW experience from teaching in Catholic schools, serving as director of religious education and adult formation at several parishes, and director of adult faith formation for the archdiocese of Detroit. In addition to ministering with RENEW, Sr. Janet does retreats, parish missions and workshops throughout the US and Canada, facilitates online courses with two universities, and is the author of numerous books and hundreds of articles.

Sr. Janet holds the degree of Master of Arts in theology and religious studies from the University of Detroit. Sr. Janet enjoys practicing a commitment to caring for the earth and working towards respect for all people. Sr. Janet also loves visiting her “great-nieces and great-nephews who live life so spontaneously — in the present moment, with such joy.”

Mary Beth Howath

Development Associate

Mary Beth performs administrative and fundraising tasks with RENEW’s development team. “RENEW gives me the opportunity to strengthen and practice my faith with work. I am also blessed to be surrounded by colleagues who feel the same empowerment,” Mary Beth says.

Before starting a family, Mary Beth worked in New York City in finance departments in commercial insurance, publishing, and retail. Mary Beth brings volunteer experience to RENEW from many fundraising roles in her daughters’ school. She supported the local Catholic school in many ways: the principal search committee; the track team, as a coach; the drama club, and a peer-tutoring program. Mary Beth sees “the value of colleagues working together for a strong mission” in non-profits.

Mary Beth holds the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York. She loves spending time with family during holidays, New York City trips, beach vacations, and impromptu dance parties. Mary Beth says she uses humor to stay positive.

Sr. Honora assists multiple RENEW teams including development and pastoral services. “I love what I do,” says Sr. Honora, “I am challenged and affirmed daily while using familiar skills and learning new ones.”

A Dominican Sister of Amityville, New York, Sr. Honora feels called to work at a non-profit that “provides various and creative ways to preach.” Before joining RENEW, she had many roles in Brooklyn, Seattle, Southampton, New York, and her Dominican community. She brings many insights from her roles as an elementary school principal, diocesan superintendent, pastoral associate, and founder of various spiritual programs. She continues volunteering at a soup kitchen at St. Anne’s in Newark, New Jersey.

Sr. Honora holds the degrees of Post Masters in spiritual direction from Seattle University, Master of Arts in moral theology from St. John’s University, and Master’s in administration and supervision from Pace University. In her free time, you can find Sr. Honora reading and visiting her family or gardening. Because she enjoys learning about various cultures and religious beliefs, Sr. Honora loves taking on new experiences and meeting people through travel.

Mariann has worked in development for more than twenty years, supporting faith-based initiatives and higher education. She earned her B.A. and M.A. at East Tennessee State University in English Literature with an emphasis on 17th Century English Sermons on marriage. She continued her theology and literature work at Georgetown University and Catholic University.

Executive Assistant to the President & Executive Director

Susan provides administrative support to RENEW’s president and executive director and assists all of RENEW’s internal teams. She has been an integral to RENEW’s implementation of state-of-the-art technology to further the mission.

Susan worked in the newspaper industry for 20 years and from that fast-paced environment, she brought to RENEW multi-tasking, customer-service, and problem-solving skills. “Non-profit work provides rewards far beyond a paycheck,” Susan says.

Susan holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts in English from Trenton State College. She finds inspiration and strength in her family, particularly the life-lessons taught by previous generations. Susan loves the classics—books, film, rock and roll, and television, and enjoys sharing them with friends and family. Susan and her husband can often be found fishing on their boat, the Rock Steady.

Marty Hagedorn

Customer Service/Shared Services Associate

Marty manages registrations, orders, shipping, inventory, mail, and kitchen organization. As a customer-service associate, Marty enjoys knowing that a phone call ends with a smile on both ends. At RENEW, Marty appreciates “working for God” outside of a specific job description.

Marty has years of experience as an administrative assistant in customer service from her work at Hanover Insurance, Corporate Technology System, and Epic Industries. Marty holds a certification as an office automation specialist from the Cittone Institute in Edison, New Jersey. She also has volunteered at Hand in Hand—a program for mentally challenged citizens—and was a candy striper at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison, New Jersey.

Marty loves animals and trying out new recipes. She would like to open a doggy day care someday. Whenever she needs a laugh, Marty spends time with lifelong friends who are like sisters to her.

Dawn Tomei

Dawn Tomei

Shared Services Associate

A member of the shared-services team, Dawn helps each department to fulfill the needs of the office and mission of RENEW International. “It is a wonderful feeling knowing that the work you do helps to enrich the spiritual lives of people sharing their love for God,” Dawn says.

Dawn brings many years of volunteering to RENEW. An active member of the Church, Dawn is a Eucharistic minister, former chair of a parish fundraiser, CCD teacher, and president of a parish council. In addition, Dawn has coached sports teams and continues leading a Girl Scout troop for her children.

Dawn and her children stay involved in the community by working with local food banks, participating in town clean-up days and collections for the military.
