Why Catholic? Moves Faith to Action in the Military
A Participant Stationed in Germany Shares Her Story
Military communities across the United States, Europe, and South Korea have participated in RENEW International's Why Catholic? program of evangelization and faith formation. Sr. Maureen Colleary, who facilitates Why Catholic? in the Archdiocese for Military Services, received this message from Michele, a participant at the US Army Garrison in Wiesbaden, Germany. It clearly demonstrates one of the hallmarks of the RENEW methodology: moving faith to action.

After doing the Why Catholic? Life in Christ book, I visited, for the first time, a homeless shelter.
Needless to say I am a little traumatized; I don't know what I was expecting. I read in our local newspaper a couple of weeks ago about a Christmas gift action for the homeless and I thought this would be simple and a nice thing to do.
I sent an email out to a few people and, within a week, we had 30 gift wrapped gifts to hand in to the shelter with shower gel, toothbrushes, socks, deodorant, hand towels, chewing gum, candy, scarves, etc.
I think God was looking for a way to get me to "walk with Him". Of course, now I'm not done. I heard that the shelter needs winter boots and shoes...
God is at work all the time…
