RENEW Small Groups Put Faith into Action
Vietnamese Community Joins Effort to Feed the Homeless

In the fall of 2010, the Archdiocese of Boston completed the fifth and final season of RENEW International’s ARISE Together in Christ. Many of the small groups continued meeting this past Lent using RENEW’s Lenten Longings faith-sharing resource. At that time, we reported on a group of participants, led by Hung Nguyen, who collaborated with RENEW to translate the book into Vietnamese.

Hung is a small group leader and very active in the Vietnamese Catholic community. He recently shared this wonderful story of faith in action with Sr. Honora Nolty, Director of Pastoral Services at RENEW.

I just wanted to share with you a brief story ...

During (and because of) ARISE Together In Christ, a group of us from St. Thecla started preparing and serving meals to the homeless in Brockton (“St. Paul's Table” as it was called at that time, and it's now “The Table at Fr. Bill's”). This idea was then brought to the Vietnamese group at St. Bernadette, and now to the Vietnamese at St. Ambrose.
We now have two Vietnamese groups (from St. Bernadette and St. Ambrose) prepare and serve meals to our brothers and sisters at “The Table.” Each time we serve, we prepare and cook the best Vietnamese food. We serve these brothers and sisters as we serve our God (Didn't we learn that in Lenten Longings?).

RENEW International, through its programs, has done a great job. Thank you so much for giving me opportunities to work with you, to learn, to grow spiritually, and to serve. And I am glad I continue to have these opportunities. Whatever I could do to help others have these same opportunities, I would do it.
Hung reports that about 150 guests are served at each meal.
