Amarillo—More than 300 people participated in four RENEW workshops Sept. 9-11 in all four deaneries of the Diocese of Amarillo, according to Sister Kass Collins, presenter for RENEW International.

“The workshops, 'Why Catholics Pray' in English and 'How Hispanics Pray in the U.S. Church' ('Orar como hispanios en la Iglesia Católica estadounidens'e in Spanish), were well received around the diocese,” said Sister Kass.

“As always, the enthusiasm of the people to learn more about their faith and grow in their prayer-life was evident in all four deanery workshops.”

Sister Kass shared with The West Texas Catholic some of the responses she received from the workshops. The names of the respondents have been omitted:

“I had other things I hoped to do this Saturday afternoon, but I am very pleased and blessed to have chosen to do this workshop.” (parishioner, St. Vincent de Paul Church, Pampa)

“This was a good overview of different forms of prayer. Can’t say they will all work for me, but I am definitely going to try some during my personal prayer time.” (Amarillo parishioner)

“This workshop made me want to become closer to the Lord!” (parishioner, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Groom)

“In today’s workshop I was able to understand better the importance of having one Church. What it matters is the love of God in everyone.” (parishioner, St. Ann’s Church, Bovina)

“My experience was very positive. A new way to learn about my Catholic faith and have fun at the same time.” (Amarillo parishioner)

“I enjoyed the presentation, a very alive and vibrant one. I understood everything and we had fun.” (parishioner, Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Dumas)

“I learned new things and the experience of the procession and praying the Rosary reminded me of my parish in Mexico.” (parishioner, St. Vincent de Paul Church, Pampa)
“The different topics we talked about in the workshop helped me to discover new things in my ministry.” (Amarillo parishioner)

“This workshop helped me to reinforce my Mexican roots and be open to other cultures to grow in faith as one family.” (Amarillo parishioner)

Recently, Bishop Patrick J. Zurek discussed the success of RENEW International's Why Catholic? / ¿Por qué ser católico?program in the Diocese of Amarillo and urged his people to participate in the "Bishop's Conversation" feature of The West Texas Catholic:
"This has been one of the greatest gifts to the Diocese of Amarillo. It’s a wonderful program. It’s a program of Christian Renewal. It’s a program that includes faith formation, helping individuals who participate to grow in their knowledge of their faith and to grow in their practice of that faith." Read more.
