Catholic Young Adult ministry plans movie tie-in

Plainfield, NJ - (April 2, 2009) – RENEW International announced its Theology on Tap young adult ministry is partnering with Disneynature for the upcoming film, earth, to be released nationally on Earth Day, April 22, 2009.

The first in the Disneynature series, earth, narrated by James Earl Jones, tells the remarkable story of three animal families and their amazing journey across the planet we all call home. “EARTH” combines rare action, unimaginable scale and impossible locations by capturing the most intimate moments of our planet’s wildest and most elusive creatures.

Directors Alistair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, the creative team behind the award-winning “Planet Earth,” combine forces again to bring this epic adventure to the big screen. In addition to a wide cinematic release in over 1800 theaters, earth will be shown on IMAX theaters around the country.

Kathy Motyka, Theology on Tap spokesperson commented, “Disneynature’s earth is a wondrous and moving epic. It so clearly illustrates the beauty of creation, and invites us, as Catholics, to live out our faith by being good stewards of this great gift. We believe that this film offers many ways to engage the young adults that Theology on Tap touches through its many events.” To read a review of earth from the USCCB Film Office, click here.

Care for the earth is an important component of Catholic Social Teaching. As Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed at World Youth Day in 2008, “The wonder of God's creation reminds us of the need to protect the environment and to exercise responsible stewardship of the goods of the earth.”

Theology on Tap is an outreach to and collaboration with young Catholic adults in pursuit of spiritual growth. Theology on Tap reaches young adults—women and men, single and married, 20s and 30s—where they are, inviting them to discover how faith can inform and give sense to their everyday lives, and how to deepen their involvement in the Catholic community and all that it does. Local Theology on Tap teams around the country and internationally offer friendly gatherings centered on topics of faith in relaxed settings like restaurants, bars, and other casual venues.

The Theology on Tap team has encouraged local groups throughout the country to invite young adults to view the movie, come together for a discussion about this remarkable film, and take steps as local groups to work to be good stewards of creation. Helpful and relevant spiritual resources are available at the group’s website, www.theologyontap.com.

Theology on Tap is working in collaboration with Different Drummer, a social marketing, media and mobilization company, and film distributor, Disneynature. Different Drummer’s staff was instrumental in creating the groundswell of interest for recent independent hit, Bella.
