Diocese of Dallas Hosts Easter Theology on Tap Series

The Diocese of Dallas hosted a Theology on Tap series for the first four Thursdays of the Easter season this Spring. Our theme this series was “Follow Me: Living Life as Christ’s Disciple,” and we had four speakers who touched on various aspects of discipleship. Our Theology on Tap is offered to all young adults in the Diocese of Dallas. We had a great response with many young adults from different parishes excited about the opportunity to get together, meet one another, and learn more about discipleship!

Theology on Tap fits so well within our broader framework for young adult ministry in the diocese. It is an opportunity to make a personal connection with the young adults and invite them into participation at a diocesan level. Our team of dedicated volunteers is a great help with hospitality, set-up and clean-up, and planning. These young adult leaders, and the other ones who attend the series, are able to connect with people outside their parish that they would not normally interact with. They share ideas, events, and support for the ministry they are doing. Young adults who may not have a community of peers at their parish get to meet people from the parishes where strong young adult faith sharing groups exist. We provide cards with information about the parish young adult ministry opportunities in the diocese (called “Tap Into Something More…”) which helps connect those who are not already involved somewhere. It is a great opportunity for diocesan staff to meet people who might be interested in building young adult ministry at their parish, and it helps us to find ways to support their efforts.

I always see a general increase in buzz about young adult ministry when we have a Theology on Tap series occurring. People are usually amazed to hear that we can gather around 100 young adults in one place to do something related to church! I think it increases their awareness that young adults are interested in their faith life, and that parishes can do something to respond to that interest. We had a big step in creating more awareness for young adult ministry with the participation of our Bishop this spring. Bishop Farrell’s night was a BIG success, and the young adults were so appreciative that he took the time to speak and answer questions.

I am so thankful for the well-organized, easy to follow model of Theology on Tap. I have definitely seen an increase in excitement about young adult ministry in our diocese over the last year and a half, and Theology on Tap has been an integral part of regularly connecting with our young adults. I’m looking forward to responding to this most recent round of new people interested in reaching out to young adults as we begin to plan for our fall series!
