RENEW Africa Comes to Johannesburg
The Archdiocese of Johannesburg, South Africa, with the leadership of Archbishop Buti Tlhagale, OMI, Fr. Tony Thoule, OFM (Director of the Office of Evangelization) and a diocesan committee coordinated by Duncan Hyam, RENEW Africa Archdiocesan Coordinator, prepares to launch RENEW Africa across their more than 120 parishes.
Preparation began with an intensive weekend of training workshops for the Diocesan Core Community (responsible for conducting parish and regional RENEW Africa training) provided by Sister Marie Cooper in August. After further preparation in August and September, teams of presenters will meet with the pastor and Parish Council of each parish in the archdiocese to explain and guide them through the process of successfully selecting the Parish Core Communities who will be responsible for implementing the process in each parish.
Ongoing training workshops for the archdiocesan presenters will be provided by RENEW International at each stage of RENEW Africa. The archdiocesan committee will coach and oversee the local presenters to assure quality training, follow up and evaluation. Training and RENEW Africa materials will be provided in all the languages required in the archdiocese.
The strong support of the bishop and diocesan staff is evidenced by the extensive coverage of RENEW Africa in the September edition of the diocesan newspaper, Archdiocesan News.
