On the Road with RENEW’s Pastoral Services Team

RENEW International’s Pastoral Services Team is busy making final preparations before they head out to dioceses and parishes throughout the world. Team members will provide training and faith enrichment workshops as well as retreats to help parish leaders and participants successfully implement the variety of faith-sharing processes RENEW International offers for small Christian communities.

Here is a summary of the travels RENEW staff members will undertake beginning next month through early fall:

The Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, will be continuing the Why Catholic? and ¿Por qué ser católico? faith-sharing seasons LIVE and La vida en Cristo this fall. Anne Scanlan will present the faith enrichment workshop, “Why Catholics Work for Justice” in English. Manuel Hernandez will present the Spanish faith enrichment workshops.

In the Archdiocese of Anchorage, Alaska, Why Catholic? workshops will be presented by Brenda Maiman, including formation workshops “Introduction to BELIEVE: Profession of Faith” and “Introduction to PRAY: Christian Prayer.” Fr. Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale will present workshops in Spanish for Profesión de nuestra fe and La celebración del misterio Cristiano.

The Archdiocese of Boston, Massachusetts, will participate this season in Why Catholic? CELEBRATE. Sr. Maureen Colleary, FSP, and Fr. Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale will lead Why Catholic? events in English and Spanish.

A cluster of parishes within the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio, is beginning ARISE Together in Christ. Sr. Maureen Colleary, FSP, will present the small-community leader formation workshops for Season One, Encountering Christ Today.


The Diocese of Crookston, Minnesota, is about to begin Season Five of ARISE: We Are the Good News! and LEVÁNTATE: ¡Somos la Buena Nueva! Anne Scanlan will present the small-community leader formation workshops in English. In Spanish, these workshops will be presented by Fr. Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale.

The Diocese of Ft. Wayne-South Bend, Indiana, is also beginning Season Five of ARISE and LEVÁNTATE. Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar will present the small-community leader formation workshops in English. The Spanish workshops will be presented by Manuel Hernandez.

A cluster of parishes in the Diocese of Galveston-Houston, Texas, will begin Season One of ARISE and LEVÁNTATE. The small-community leader formation workshops will be presented in English by Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar, and in Spanish by Fr. Alejandro López-Cardinale.

A cluster of parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, California, will be completing Why Catholic?: LIVE this fall. Retreats in English and Spanish will be led by Sr. Maureen Colleary, FSP, and Fr. Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale.

The Diocese of London, Ontario, Canada, is beginning Why Catholic? and Être catholique… pourquoi ? this fall. Anne Scanlan will present the formation workshop, “Are You Praying?”

The Diocese of Louisville, Kentucky, will be participating in the Why Catholic? season of LIVE this fall. Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar will present the faith enrichment workshop, “Why Catholics Work for Justice” in English.

The Diocese of Lubbock, Texas, continues with ARISE and LEVÁNTATE this fall as they begin Season Three, In the Footsteps of Christ and En las huellas de Cristo. Anne Scanlan will present the small-community leader formation workshops in English, and Manuel Hernandez will present the workshops in Spanish.

In the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey, Anne Scanlan will present the formation workshop “Introduction to CELEBRATE: Sacraments” for a cluster of parishes who are about to begin faith sharing with Why Catholic? CELEBRATE this fall.

The Archdiocese of Miami, Florida, is beginning Why Catholic? / ¿Por qué ser católico? this fall. Sr. Marie Cooper, SJC will present the formation workshop: “Are You Praying?” in English. The Spanish workshops will be presented by Fr. Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale.

The Diocese of Monterey, California, is beginning Season One of ARISE and LEVÁNTATE. The small-community leader formation workshops will be presented in English by Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar, and in Spanish by Manuel Hernandez.
A parish in Bayonne within the Archdiocese of Newark , New Jersey, will begin ARISE Season Three, In the Footsteps of Christ. Anne Scanlan will present the small-community leader formation workshops.

The Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky, will begin ARISE/LEVÁNATE Season Five, We Are the Good News! and ¡Somos la Buena Neuva!. Anne Scanlan will present the small-community leader formation workshops in English. Fr. Alejandro López-Cardinale will present the workshops in Spanish.

Clusters of parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have been faith sharing on Why Catholic?: CELEBRATE and on Why Catholic?: LIVE. Anne Scanlan will lead events to celebrate these clusters’ completion of their respective seasons of Why Catholic? Additionally, Anne will also lead a small community leader workshop for a cluster of parishes beginning ARISE, Season One: Encountering Christ Today.

A cluster of Suffolk County parishes in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York, are beginning Season One of ARISE, Encountering Christ Today. Sr. Honora Nolty, OP, will present the small-community leader formation workshops. Sr. Honora will also be leading small-community leader formation workshops for another cluster of parishes who will be starting ARISE Season Three: In the Footsteps of Christ.

The Archdiocese of St. Boniface in Manitoba, Canada, will begin Season Five of ARISE Together in Christ and DEBOUT Ensemble dans le Christ. The groups will use the faith-sharing books We Are the Good News! and Nous sommes la Bonne Nouvelle. Sr. Marie Cooper, SJC, will present the workshops in English and French.

A parish within the Diocese of San Diego, California, will begin ARISE Season One: Encountering Christ Today. Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar will present the small-community leader formation workshop in English.

The Canadian Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie will begin Season Three of ARISE and DEBOUT. Participants will be faith sharing using In the Footsteps of Christ and Sur les pas du Christ. Sr. Marie Cooper, SJC, will present English and French small community leader formation workshops.

ARISE and LEVÁNTATE participants in the Diocese of Springfield/ Cape Girardeau, Missouri, will begin Season Five of ARISE and LEVÁNTATE, We Are the Good News! and ¡Somos la Buena Nueva! Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar will present the small-community leader formation workshops in English. Fr. Alejandro López-Cardinale will present the workshops in Spanish.

The Diocese of Stockton, California is beginning Season Two of La Justicia brota de la fe: Formación en la fe y en la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia. Manuel Hernandez will present orientation workshops in Spanish.

A cluster of parishes in the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey, will begin ARISE Season One: Encountering Christ Today. Anne Scanlan will present the small-community leader formation workshops in English.

Callie Kowalski will visit the campus of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to present a small-group leadership workshop for Campus RENEW.

Overseas, in South Africa, Sr. Marie Cooper, SJC will be accompanied by Sr. Áine Hughes, HC, of Pretoria as they present faith-sharing workshops in the Dioceses of Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, and Pretoria. In Australia, RENEW International’s president, Sr. Terry Rickard, OP, will be presenting several workshops. In the Archdiocese of Sydney, Sr. Terry will present about the New Evangelization at a two day conference to vocation ministers from Australia and New Zealand. Sr. Terry will also be presenting on the New Evangelization for parishes and for religious in the Archdiocese of Perth.
