Overview

RENEW Theology on Tap offers an innovative solution to one of today’s most pressing pastoral concerns: how to reach out to young Catholic adults. The program does this by establishing a process that enhances a local or regional young adult ministry by creating opportunities for young adults to listen to a well-informed and dynamic speaker, discuss relevant spiritual topics, and get to know one another in a comfortable young-adult friendly setting. It combines the wisdom of two proven models of ministry.

RENEW International begins its efforts to revitalize parish life. It has touched the lives of 25 million people through its ministry services, in over 150 dioceses in the United States, and has served people in 23 countries, across six continents and in 44 languages.  Theology on Tap is established as an opportunity for parishes to focus on one of the most overlooked groups of people in the parish: people in their 20s and 30s. Since then, more than 150 groups around the country and beyond have utilized the program as an effective invitation strategy.

RENEW Theology on Tap

A partnership begins between RENEW International and the Office of Young Adult Ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago to further the work that has been done by both, combining the wisdom of small Christian communities and Theology on Tap. We at RENEW International have learned that Theology on Tap works best in the context of a comprehensive young adult ministry. Those ministries that have been successful and consistent over an extended period of time share these following four commonalities:

faith-sharing community
RENEW Theology on Tap begins with the formation of a core community of young
Catholic adults. The glue that bonds this community together is faith sharing, which
allows the community to deepen their relationship with each other and God. This
core community is the foundation upon which your young adult ministry will be built.
commitment to invitation
The core community’s mission is to organize Theology on Tap, a four-week series that acts as an opportunity for the parish to gather Catholics in their 20s and 30s weekly for a speaker, theological reflection, and community building. Personal invitation is at the heart of a successful effort.
spirit of hospitality
More than anything else, Catholics in their 20s and 30s seek a welcoming and
meaningful community in their church experiences. RENEW Theology on Tap
emphasizes the practical measures a parish and core community can take to make
their church more hospitable to Catholics in their 20s and 30s.
meaningful follow-up
Theology on Tap is a method of invitation. Therefore, the parish needs to offer ongoing opportunities to which participants can be invited, such as spiritual or social activities. RENEW Theology on Tap helps to create one option for follow-up: small faith-sharing communities. These small communities will deepen the faith of those involved and act as vehicles of outreach and evangelization.
